Authorizing a New Representative

Thank you for choosing me to support your tax and financial needs. Before I can access your CRA information or speak with the CRA on your behalf, you must authorize me as your representative.

If you already have a CRA My Account, sign in and proceed to STEP #2; all others, please see below.

Before starting, you must have the following ready:

  • Social Insurance Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Your most recently filed personal tax return or Notice of Assessment

Note: These steps must be completed for each individual.

Step 1 — Register for a CRA My Account

  1. 1)Go to the CRA Sign-in page: CRA Login Services
  2. 2)Select "Register for a CRA Account"
  3. 3)Enter your personal information (SIN, date of birth, and a line from your last filed tax return)
  4. 4)You can set up your login in one of two ways — choose the option that is easiest for you: (A) Create a User ID and Password that is unique to you, or (B) Use a Sign-in Partner (Financial Institute) — sign in using your online banking information. This is the preferred method.
  5. 5)Choose one of the following identity verification options: Instant ID verification — using a cell phone, you will be prompted to take a photo of your government-issued photo ID (front & back) and a "selfie". Ensure sufficient lighting as they only allow 3 attempts. OR Receive a security code by mail — slower process; instant verification is recommended.
  6. 6)Once you have created your login, you will need to choose 5 security questions and answers. Please print the confirmation page for future reference, as these answers can be used to regain lost access to your CRA My Account.

Step 2 — Authorize Your Representative

  1. 1)Sign in to your CRA My Account
  2. 2)Select your Individual Account
  3. 3)In the left-side menu, choose Profile
  4. 4)Under Authorized Representatives, click Add
  5. 5)Review the "Before you begin" information and click Start
  6. 6)Enter Business Number: 808645527 and select Search to confirm my details
  7. 7)Select: Level of access: 2 = Full Access (recommended) | Online Access: Yes | Expiry Date: Does not expire (recommended)
  8. 8)Review and submit. Once submitted, I will receive immediate access to your CRA account. Please send me a quick email to confirm you've added me — I'll verify that the authorization went through correctly.
